About Mary
Welcome to Mind Intertwined. My name is Mary and I am an AHPRA registered Psychologist located in Melbourne.
Psychology is a passion that found me at a young age, and as I grew up, I began to realise just how prevalent mental health issues can be. I also became aware and curious about the ways in which these issues can impact on our lives but also the way that aspects of our lives can contribute to difficulties with our mental health. In other words, I wanted to further understand the ways that our minds are intertwined with our everyday lives.
Since then, I have pursued this interest further, pursuing psychology as a career and ultimately gaining registration as a Psychologist.
My ethos is centred on the fact that our minds are intertwined with our everyday lives. By exploring, understanding, and working with our inner world we can begin to take steps toward creating positive change and developing a greater sense of wellbeing in all aspects of life. I work with clients to understand what they want to get out of therapy and tailor treatment according to individual goals and needs. I offer a warm, compassionate, and empathetic approach to therapy and am focussed on creating a space in which you can feel safe and comfortable to explore.
I have experience working with adults and young people with a range of mental health challenges including depression, anxiety, trauma, personality disorders and relationship difficulties.
I acknowledge that not one size fits all and am flexible in the approach that I take. I draw upon several evidence-based interventions including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Schema Therapy, Mindfulness and Emotion Focussed Therapy.
I believe that while as a society, we have made great progress in our understanding and awareness of many of these issues, I still feel that we have a long way to go. With this in mind, I decided to combine my passion for psychology with my passion for writing and bring this blog to life. My aim for this blog is to shed light on issues relating to mental health, raise awareness of mental health and mental illness, reduce the stigma surrounding this field and offer information that people might find useful, relevant or interesting.

Toxic positivity essentially refers to a persistent effort to maintain and present a happy and optimistic state across all situations. Of course, this sounds great in theory, but does it work?
